Acrylics Print E-mail
Acrylic is the most versatile of all paint mediums and it works for all painters. Lay aside your thoughts for a moment regarding oil paints verses acrylic. Oil paints are made with turpentine or petroleum substance and linseed oil is the solvent, then natural color products. This is the “norm” for the master of the impressionism art of the past, but the future is acrylic, they have come a very long way, there colors are natural, less order, cleanup is water, and drying time is the best of the best. The bonus is when you make a mistake with acrylic; here comes gesso to the rescue. Acrylic has the binder which is a gum arabic with is a solvent conducive with water. Acrylic allows you when wet to remove or dissolve the color with water, but when it is dry will be almost impossible to remove that are why I mentioned gesso.
You will find with acrylic you can layer your painting in a wash technique and make a watercolor type painting, the drying time is fast and you can use opaque almost instantly.
