Acrylic painting is versatile it can be used to appear flat or applied thick to show the brush strokes.
You can use many different types of tools when painting with acrylic, Palette knife, brushes, toothbrushes, forks, your fingers, pens and sponges just to name a few.
Acrylic can be used in a collage; tissue paper, cloth or old artwork can be glued down to support the acrylic medium. You can use wire and crumpled paper or cloth and glue that down and then apply your acrylic paint. You can make very interesting and colorful collages this way. You can always apply acrylic medium to the back surface of tissue paper, newsprint or anything you like apply it to the canvas and then apply it over the top of the surface of your choice, then start to paint.
Acrylic is so forgiving, if you have made a mistake it is a very simple process, just white it out with gesso and start again.
Make sure you purchase acrylic varnishes, either matt or gloss and or acrylic medium, it does almost the same job. This is nice when the painting is finished and adding the gloss makes it all flow together. Remember if you want to go back and work on this piece you can, just start to paint with acrylic paint only and then reapply the varnish.
