Acrylic verses watercolor techniques Print E-mail
Acrylic can be used to simulate watercolor, by laying down thin washes you can achieve the same as watercolor. Once the wash dries with acrylic you can apply another and another and you can add medium to change up the technique. When painting with watercolor you painted light to dark, it is still a good idea to follow that pattern. In acrylic you can always add back into the painting a lighter color, whereas in watercolor you cannot. You can paint wet onto wet and see how the acrylic paint acts like the watercolor paint. You can use the masking technique in acrylic to save the white on the paper or canvas the same way, as you would water color. You can lay your layers one on top the other; just still remember to allow each layer to dry.
